Liberté School invites applications from motivated and philosophically aligned educators to join our Montessori 6 to 9 year old environment.

This position is particularly well-suited to recently qualified or early-career educators eager to grow within a structured, mentored, and intellectually engaging environment. Experienced candidates who align strongly with our philosophy are also encouraged to apply.

Our programme integrates Montessori principles with the British International and Cambridge curricula, guided by cognitive science and a strong focus on executive functioning. We are looking for educators who are curious, reflective, and committed to developing independence, disciplined thinking, and strong character in children.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Section Team Leader and receive mentorship and support as they develop their classroom practice. At Liberté, we believe in growing excellent teachers through clear expectations, feedback, and professional development.

Minimum Requirements

  • Be registered with the South African Council for Educators
  • Hold a qualification at NQF Level 7 or higher, or be completing such a qualification
  • Have Montessori training, coursework, or a demonstrated interest in Montessori philosophy
  • Provide a valid police clearance certificate
  • Demonstrate strong communication, organisational, and collaborative skills
  • Be proficient in digital tools such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Provide contactable references
  • Hold a valid work permit or permanent residency if not a South African citizen
  • Previous teaching experience is advantageous but not essential for candidates who demonstrate strong alignment, maturity, and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

 

  • Teaching and Learning
    1. Implement the School’s curriculum, methodologies, and pedagogical frameworks in alignment with established standards
    2. Plan and prepare lessons, activities, and learning materials
    3. Provide appropriate learner support through scaffolding, reinforcement, and extension
    4. Maintain high standards of classroom engagement and instructional conduct
    5. Support school events and co-curricular activities as required
  • Learner Observation and Development
    1. Conduct structured classroom observations
    2. Identify learner strengths and developmental needs
    3. Contribute to Individual Learning Plans and support strategies
    4. Record learner information accurately within designated systems
  • Assessment and Reporting
    1. Conduct formative and summative assessments
    2. Maintain accurate attendance and progress records
    3. Contribute to report writing
    4. Provide constructive feedback within authorised communication channels
  • Executive Functioning and Behavioural Development
    1. Promote independence, organisation, and responsibility
    2. Intentionally develop executive functioning skills, including working memory, cognitive flexibility, self-regulation, and sustained attention
    3. Apply behaviour management policies consistently
    4. Model respectful communication and emotional regulation
  • Classroom Environment
    1. Maintain a safe, orderly, and prepared environment
    2. Ensure materials are organised and accessible
    3. Guide learners in caring for the classroom
  • Parent Communication
    1. Maintain professional and respectful communication
    2. Provide learner-related updates as authorised
    3. Refer complex matters to the Team Leader or School Management
  • Safety and Duty of Care
    1. Actively supervise learners
    2. Comply with safeguarding and child protection policies
    3. Report safety or welfare concerns immediately
  • Professional Conduct and Development
    1. Uphold ethical and professional standards
    2. Maintain confidentiality
    3. Participate in training, coaching, and meetings
    4. Receive feedback constructively and demonstrate growth

 

Qualifications

NQF Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Education

Montessori qualification, formal training, or demonstrable Montessori classroom experience
