Mathematics

Overview

Maths helps us to think analytically and have better reasoning abilities. Our primary mathematics curriculum encourages life-long enthusiasm for analytical and rational thinking. The curriculum is presented in five content areas: Number, Geometry, Measure, Handling data and Problem-solving.

Learners develop a holistic understanding of the subject, focussing on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships. They will become mathematically competent and fluent in computation, which they can apply to everyday situations.

Learners actively seek to make sense of ideas and build connections between different facts, procedures and concepts when they think and work mathematically. These skills are supported by the development of the learner’s higher-order executive functioning skills underpinning our cognitive development programme.

Learners are taught skills in the mathematical strands of numbers and calculus, geometry and measure, as well as statistics and probability. These concepts are then applied to real-life situations and projects in our practical and applied arts programme.

The strands work together to help students recognise connections between mathematical concepts as they engage in creative mathematical thinking to generate and improve numerical fluency.
