Liberté recognises the value of music in the development of young children. Music is integrated into the classrooms in various ways, including through singing, movement, and instrument exploration.
One of the key benefits of music education is that it can help children develop their sense of rhythm, which is an essential component of language development. Music can also help children develop their coordination, motor skills, and concentration.
Music allows learners to express themselves, sparking imagination and creativity and developing transferable executive functioning skills like memory, cognitive flexibility, planning and organising.
Additionally, music can be used to foster social skills and a sense of community, as children are encouraged to participate in group activities such as singing and playing instruments together. At Liberté school, music is introduced through a “music circle,” a group activity in which children learn songs, explore rhythm and melody, and experiment with different instruments. The music circle aims to create a fun and engaging environment where children can develop their musical skills while building their social and cognitive abilities.
To allow children to explore further and develop their musical abilities, the School also offers individual guitar, piano and vocal lessons as an extramural.
